My Greatest Enemy

One more minute
till life concludes,

the 24th hour dies
and
Someone experiences the end,
of the world.

Of time,
of living by a battery operated pendulum.

Breaths
Measured by the seconds.

Yet,

the last breath can never be known

The gravity of a single existence.
Another circle
around the fiery sun.

I hear the clock from the hallway,
the beat of an oppressive tool,
to bear witness to each
passing moment.
I try to outrun
my greatest enemy,
only to be reminded
time dies with me;
I yearn for more.
