The Wolf

The wolf came to me
last night,
Her ancient voice woke me
from the umbra of
my mind.
The fierceness in her eyes held
my gaze,
She told me to follow her
down the wooded path.

I am undone.
my steps
leave no sound.
Her howl haunts me.
Her loyalty reminds me
of a time when we hunted together.
When we cared for each other. The pack.
One family

Those days hunting
the only means to survive.
Now we stalk.
Hatred pours through fingers to machines.
We are no longer wild.
We are caged
Death our only freedom.
The wolf remembers all
